Day 5 - Castle Cornet

Yay for having internet once again!   Guernsey is beautiful with tropical plants everywhere and sea views every which way you turn. We woke up and had breakfast in the Ship & Crown sampling the locally made cider called Rocquette. After eating and watching some football we set out for Castle Cornet. The Castle was first built in 1206 on an island just in front of St. Peter Port. Over the years the castle grew and was fortified up to WWII when the Germans made modifications while occupying Guernsey. Unfortunately the German modifications make the castle very ugly in certain spots with their concrete brutalism. It was creepy and sad to see that they'd named their watch posts after girls like Maria, Elly, and Anna. I tried going in one, but got creeped out knowing the soldiers who took over the castle died of starvation. Other than the creepy German bits on the top level the rest of the castle is very medieval and cool to walk around. We had lots of fun going between levels and running through tunnels with medieval graffiti.

After we toured the castle we visited High Street and did some shopping . This adorable kitty was sleeping on $2,000 antique chair!
